What is an IPP?

An Individual Pension Plan (IPP) is a registered pension plan.   These plans are governed by both the Income Tax Act (ITA) and pension standards legislation.

The rules are different, depending upon who the member is.   The below discussion is relevant for “connected persons” (in general terms, individuals owning 10% or more of any class of shares on a direct or indirect basis, or persons not dealing with the employer at arm’s length, or “specified shareholders”).
